Those Were the Days

From ATG Member, Donna Kaspar

(President, San Diego Accordion Club)

Thank you San Diego Accordion Club member Joe Colombo for sharing your September 1954 copy of National Accordion Topics! Articles included news of famous stars and studios, contest

winners, accordion picnics, festivals, competitions, and up-and-coming students. Lots and

lots of students! One story lists the judges at the annual AAA competition: Aretta, Ferraro, Gavin, Ettore, Carozza, Deiro and Magnante, to name a few. There were numerous ads for

repair, sales, and instruction—tons of studios ALL OVER CALIFORNIA.

There was also an ad for the 4-year old Los Angeles chapter of the Accordion Teachers’ Guild.

National Accordion Topics was published in Los Angeles. This 16 page quarterly was mailed out

with a 2 cent stamp. It was a few years before the zip code came around.

Thanks to Donna for sharing this with the ATG membership.
