CIA News

ATG is a Premier Voting Member of the Confédération Internationale Des Accordéonistes (CIA) and was represented by Liz Finch, Joan Sommers (honorary member), and Kevin Friedrich (official Ambassador of the CIA) at the recent 145th General Assembly of Delegates Congress (Winter Congress) held online March 14, 2021.

More than 40 delegates were in attendance from over 25 countries from around the globe. (See attached screen shot.) After a warm welcome by CIA President, Mirco Patarini, general business was conducted that included reports from standing committees, approval of minutes, and financial reports. Presentations were heard from accordion associations from the countries of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro requesting membership as voting members. Perhaps the most interesting part of the meeting was the discussion of upcoming events being held by the CIA. Beginning with World Accordion Day, May 6, an online broadcast hosted by Kevin Friedrich and Grayson Masefield will focus on accordion education around the world. Member associations are encouraged to submit videos showing how their teachers work, introduce the instrument to children, the challenges they face and how they support and promote them.

Other activities include the Coupe Mondiale 2021, October 13-17 in Munich, Germany (see attached screen shot), and a video competition (open to all) with the title “The Magic of the Accordion”. The CIA is looking for a professionally produced “commercial” featuring the accordion. Any interested ATG members can contact Kevin Friedrich for more information about this project. There is an October deadline for all entries.

Because the Winter Congress was held as an online virtual conference, it was an opportunity for all members to be present and participate. Usually this level of participation occurs only during the live meetings at the annual Coupe Mondiale. With the limitations and restricted travel brought about by the global pandemic, along with internet access for everyone, online conferencing has worked to bring the CIA community together in an unexpected, but positive way!
