Voice of the Wood Chamber Players

Voice of the Wood Chamber Players began as Voice of the Wood Cello Quartet in 2003.  Originally the cello section of the Evergreen Chamber Orchestra (ECO), Voice of the Wood expanded to include other instruments. The current core group consists of four cellos. Mike and Shirley Marecak are Cellists in the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra and the Evergreen Chamber Orchestra, and Marilyn Hof and Susan Crisfield are Cellists in the Evergreen Chamber Orchestra. The two violinists are Katherine Thayer and Carrie Beeder. The group often includes two Accordionists (John and Madalynn Neu).  This is a unique combination of instruments. Voice of the Wood Chamber Players are heard frequently at ECO recitals, at Dazzle Jazz Club performances and at many metro area libraries. Mike Marecak arranges and/or composes most of the music.

Katherine Thayer is concertmaster for the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra (DPO) and for the Evergreen Chamber Orchestra. She received a Master’s Degree from Michigan State University when the Juilliard Quartet was in residence, and studied in Europe with icons Zino Francescatti, Christian Ferras, Alberto Lysy and Ayla Erduran. She held positions in the first violin sections of the Kamarata Lysy, the Wurttembergishes Kammer, Orchertre and the Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg touring frequently throughout Europe and the Philippines.

Katherine performs with Inside the Orchestra that introduces classical music to school children, and at both the Colorado Music Festival and Grand Teton Music Festivals. She was principal 2nd violin and soloist with the former Denver Chamber Orchestra, JoAnne Falletta, conductor, Prior to moving to Colorado, Katherine was an Assistant Professor of Violin and Chamber Music at Eastern New Mexico University where she performed as violinist in the Raphael Piano Trio. She returned to Europe in October 2017 as part of an exchange program with the DPO and the Bayerische Philharmone in Munich.
